INFO + FAQ

What are regionals?
Regionals are intended for delegations to meet up with other delegations in their area to write bills that will end up at the Annual Session. Regionals are meant to help spur bill ideas that we will then practice debating at the Special Session. Any bill submitted to the Special Session will be granted the bill deadline extension (4/3), regardless of whether it passes at the Special Session.

Objectives/Guidelines of Regionals

The Regional Meetups will focus primarily on re-teaching and strengthening bill writing and parli pro skills. Students will get the opportunity to be refreshed on the information and practice what they learned at the LTI to prepare for the upcoming Special and Annual Sessions

  • These are informal events designed to foster connection, communication, and confidence among the students of local schools

  • The goal of the Regionals is to get members to write and submit bills for the Annual Session – this is a great way to brainstorm and collaborate with others to come up with new ideas

    • Parli pro and debate will be focused on during the Special Session, which is why bill writing is being emphasized for the Regionals; however, schools participating in the regionals are free to cover the areas they see fit

  • DCPs will work together to brainstorm ideas, either their own or for their delegation members, and assign a certain number of bills to be written in a certain timeframe

    • This fosters the creation of more bills to be submitted to both Special and Annual Session

  • DCPs should be able to establish a range of bills that they want their chapters to create

  • BILLS MUST BE CREATING NEW MD LAW

  • Bills can be uploaded as late as one (1) hour before the Special Session

What will we do?
Delegation chairpersons will collaborate to brainstorm bill ideas (either their own or their delegation’s) and assign a range of bills their school will try to create. This structure will help schools draft more bills to submit to both the Special and Annual Sessions! Bills must be creating new Maryland! Students can submit bills as late as one hour before the Special Session

I am new to MSL, should I come?
Yes! You will be able to have more bill writing time with smaller groups and more opportunity to learn!
