10       	        A RESOLUTION CONCERNING

20 	THE REMEMBERANCE OF THE COLUMBINE HIGH SCHOOL MASSACRE



30	WHEREAS:	One year ago this month, Columbine High School was the site of a massacre 

40 			where 12 students and one teacher lost their lives and 23 other people were 

50			wounded; and,



60	WHEREAS: 	Though the violence has subsided, the emotional pain and anguish is still being 

70			dealt with on a daily basis by the students of Columbine High School, the 

80			family, friends, and community of those involved, as well as those whose hearts 

90			were touched by the tragedy of this story; and,



100	WHEREAS: 	School violence has gained marked visibility and occurrences are progressively 

110			more violent.



120	THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:	That the Maryland Student Legislature dedicate the March 14-

130			16, 2000 Annual Session to the Survivors of the Columbine Massacre and to the 

140			remembrance of victims of school violence throughout the United States of 

150 			America; and,



160	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:	That the Maryland Student Legislature implores school 

170 			officials to remember the Columbine Massacre and work to develop new 

180			strategies to counteract an increasing trend towards spectacular violence within 

190			the schools.
