10			  A RESOLUTION CONCERNING

20		   THE RECOGNITION OF DUCKPIN BOWLING

30			AS MARYLAND'S STATE SPORT



40	WHEREAS:	Duckpin bowling is a competitive sport which 

50		exercises both the mind and the body; and,



60	WHEREAS:	Thousands of Marylanders enjoy this sport every 

70		year; and,



80	WHEREAS:	Duckpin bowling has historical significance to 

90		Maryland, as it was invented in Baltimore in 

100		1900; and,



110	WHEREAS:	The majority of duckpin bowlers and duckpin 

120		lanes are concentrated in the state of Maryland; 

130		and,



140	WHEREAS:	Duckpin bowling is more unique to Maryland than 

150		the present state sport, jousting; and,	

		

160	WHEREAS:	Duckpin bowling is more accessible and more 

170            	affordable to the average Marylander than is 

180		jousting.



190	THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature 

200		urges the Maryland General Assembly to recognize 

210		duckpin bowling as Maryland's official state 

220		sport.
