10 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING
20 A UNITED STATES INITIATIVE TO CREATE A NATIONAL WATER
30 APPRECIATION DAY
40 WHEREAS: Water is an essential aspect of everyday life; and,
50 WHEREAS: The role of water as a social, agricultural, economic and life sustaining
60 good should be reflected in the conservation and pollution prevention
70 actions of the United States; and,
80 WHEREAS: The United States must encourage the local population, including all men,
90 women, children and indigenous people, in water management and
100 pollution prevention techniques; and,
110 WHEREAS: With the overall rise in the world's population over the next 30 years, it is
120 estimated the demand for water will increase by 650 percent.
130 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature strongly
140 urges the United States of America to introduce a National Water
150 Appreciation Day to be celebrated yearly on April 22; and,
160 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature strongly
170 urges that the education of water conservation and pollution prevention
180 be taught at a local level to reflect local needs, but should also reflect the
190 needs of the United Sates of America; and,
200 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature strongly
210 urges the Environmental Protection Agency to work with the local
220 communities year round so as to best inform the general public of the
230 nation's needs on National Water Appreciation Day.
