10 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE LEGALIZATION OF PROSTITUTION 20 WHEREAS: The government should have no authority to tell an individual what to do 30 with his/her own body, as long as he/she is not harming others; and, 40 WHEREAS: The consensual sexual relations of adults are a personal and private 50 matter, over which the government should have no authority; and, 60 WHEREAS: Prostitution is a victimless crime; and, 70 WHEREAS: Enforcement of prostitution laws are a strain on the resources of 80 police departments, which could be better used to fight violent 90 crime; and, 100 WHEREAS: Prostitution can provide a source of income to those unskilled, 110 poorly educated individuals who often have no other means of 120 supporting themselves. 130 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That Maryland Student Legislature urges the 140 Maryland General Assembly to repeal all laws criminalizing prostitution; 150 and, 160 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That Maryland Student Legislature urges the 170 Maryland General Assembly to enact no further laws restricting 180 prostitution. 190 MANDATES: Governor Parris Glendening 200 Delegate Joseph F.
