10   				A RESOLUTION CONCERNING 
20  		RAISING THE SPEED LIMIT ON MARYLAND HIGHWAYS

30	WHEREAS:	The average speed on interstate highways in the United States is 
40 			75 mph; and,

50	WHEREAS:	There are more important and tragic crimes than speeding; and,

60	WHEREAS:	Police officers could better spend time solving crimes more serious 
70 			than speeding; and,

80	WHEREAS:	The safe speed for any given motor vehicle varies from vehicle to 
90 			vehicle; and, 

100	WHEREAS:	It is unreasonable for the state of Maryland to regulate the speed of 
110 			motor vehicles.

120	THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: 	That the Maryland Student Legislature urges 
130 			the repealing of speed limits on non-urbanized limited access 
140 			divided highways including, but not limited to portions of 
150 			Interstates 68, 70, 95, and 270; and,

160	BE IT FURTHER RESOVLED: That the Maryland Student Legislature
170 			urges the adoption of a 70 mph speed limit for other limited
180 			access divided highways.
