10          	A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AMERICORPS 
20				AS A PERMANENT INSTITUTION
 

30	WHEREAS:	AmeriCorps programs strengthen communities by bringing together people
40			from varied backgrounds to solve local problems; and,

50	WHEREAS:	AmeriCorps encourages responsibility through community service and civic
60			education; and,

70	WHEREAS:	AmeriCorps expands opportunities by helping to make college affordable; 
80			and,

90	WHEREAS:	AmeriCorps helps communities solve their problems and meet their needs.

100	THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:  That the Maryland Student Legislature urges that
110 			AmeriCorps be reauthorized in the next federal budget in order to continue
120 			functioning as a permanent organization.
