10 		A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE DEFINITION OF IMPEACHABLE 
20					CRIMES


30	WHEREAS:  	Currently the Maryland State Constitution fails to ascribe what
40                   	actions warrant the impeachment of judicial and executive state 
50              	officials; and,

60 	WHEREAS:  	The recent controversy over the impeachment of the President
70                 	of the United States has brought into controversy the nature
80             		of impeachable offenses at the federal level; and,

90	WHEREAS:  	What warrants removal from statewide office is of great import; 
100			and,

110 	WHEREAS:   	It is an affront to equal justice and the rule of law for executive
120                 	and judicial officials at the state level to engage in acts of treason,
130			bribery, perjury, obstruction of justice, or other high crimes and 
140                	misdemeanors.

150 	THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:  That the Maryland Student Legislature urges 
160                  	the Maryland General Assembly to amend the State Constitution to 
170                  	enumerate treason, bribery, perjury, and obstruction of justice as
180                   	impeachable offenses; and,

190 	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:  That the Maryland Student Legislature further 
200                    	recommends that ãhigh crimes and misdemeanorsä shall
210                 	also be included in any such amendment to the constitution of the
220                 	State.
