10 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING
20 THE CHANGING OF THE DRIVING TEST IN MARYLAND

30	WHEREAS:	Thousands of accidents occur in Maryland each year; and,

40	WHEREAS:	Many of those accidents occur because of driver negligence due to inexperience
50 behind the wheel; and,

60	WHEREAS:	Anyone in Maryland can take the driving test required to obtain a Maryland
70 State Driver's Liscence; and,

80	WHEREAS:	The Maryland State Drivers's Test does not accurately represent the
90 requirements necessary for real driving situations; and,

100	WHEREAS:	A "real life" driving test is a more accurate representation of the necessary
110 applications of driving; and,

120	WHEREAS:	Similar driving tests have been instituted in other states with considerable
130 success.

140	THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature strongly supports a
150 driving driving test administered by a technician requiring the traditional
160 testing requirements to be performed on existing highways and roads in
170 Maryland; and,

180	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student legislature strongly urges the
190 Maryland General Assembly and Governor Parris Glendening to pass
200 legislation requiring Maryland citizens who wish to obtain any class liscence to
210 be subject to such legislation.

220	MANDATES:	Governor Parris Glendening
230 The Honorable Delegate Casper Taylor
240 The Honorable Senator Thomas 'Mike' Miller
250 Maryland Secretary of Transportation David Winstead
