10 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING 20 SMALL BUSINESSES AND ENTREPRENEURS 30 WHEREAS: Large Corporations and virtual monopolies have begun to run rampant within 40 the U.S.; and, 50 WHEREAS: This trend, if left unchecked, will eventually deter new businesses from forming 60 as well as diminish the present competition; and, 70 WHEREAS: Any past government regulation intended on promoting competition and/or 80 maintaining good business practices has traditionally hindered smaller 90 businesses and entrepreneurs. 100 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature urges Congress to 110 prohibit the loaning, borrowing, or granting of government funds to large 120 businesses and companies that: 130 (1) make a yearly gross profit of over $10 million, and 140 (2) have violated, within the current year, any of the stipulations 150 held by the Fair Labor Standard Act, the Equal Employment 160 Opportunity Coordinating Counsel (EEOCC) and the 170 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). 180 MANDATES: Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich 190 Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott 200 Senate Minority Leader Thomas Daschle Primary sponsor: Corey L.
